Shirley Chisholm


Shirley straight up crushed it on all levels. She was the first African American woman to be elected to congress and also the first woman to run for a major party’s candidacy for President of the United States (ultimately losing the Democratic nomination to George McGovern). Shirley worked tirelessly to improve the life of inner-city residents (especially children), and played a critical role in creating the WIC program, which has helped countless children and infants receive nutritional food needed for their development and well being
